1. Overview

1.1 Title

Frosty Form - A board game to balance screen time and play for children between the ages of 8-12 years old

1.2 Abstract

My project aims to examine the factors that make casual video games appealing to children and parents, and how this board game can act as a break from video games. The goal of this project is to design a board game that is equally captivating as casual video games by incorporating electronics while promoting social and problem-solving skills during group play and featuring customizable stages and adjustable difficulty levels catering to different age groups.

1.3 Problem statement

The issue of screen dependency is an escalating concern, particularly among children. The developing brains of children undergo substantial transformations, and the rising prevalence of digital devices has given rise to the potential development of Screen Dependency Disorders (SDD). Prolonged screen exposure can result in health challenges stemming from diminished aerobic fitness. Furthermore, heightened screen engagement has been associated with adverse consequences, including heightened aggression and developmental impediments.

1.4 Project Scope

Date: August - December 2023

My Role: UX researcher, UX/UI designer, documentarian developer

Technology: Arduino, Figma, TinkerCAD

Constraint: Given my budget constraints, it's important to note that the electronics I’m using may not be of the highest quality, which could lead to some buttons being a bit sensitive or prone to occasional issues.
